Media Language:
This video starts off in a recording studio with David Guetta and the other artists recording in the studio. The camera angles on this part of the music video are very natural and make it look like the camera is meant to be there, but as if its recording a 'Behind The Scenes' video. I think the way its filmed looks very natural, although when the extras come in to make it more of a party scene, its then when it looks more like a real music video. The lighting is very natural, when the scenes start outside, there is very natural light, of course coming from the sun, but inside its more dark, but still there is only a few lights. For example; When Chris Willis is singing in the video, there is only one light behind him, This could represent the spotlight is on him, because he is singing, and taking the spotlight. There is many close up shots of the singers when in the recording studio, this is so the audience can see more of the star and know who's singing which parts. There is also lots of long shots when the crowd from outside are coming in, this is so you can see the growth and the amount of people that are coming to party.
Media Institution:
David Guetta is signed to EMI Music France and Virgin Records. I think that who the artist is signed to is very important within the music industry, as all record labels distribute their artist differently, as for David Guetta, you dont know much about his personal life, its all about the music. David Guetta is also just the DJ, he never sings in any of his songs, so making sure he gets enough publicity and credit for his songs is crucial. His songs are distributed on Youtube; this is so he can get known and his fans all over the world can see all his music videos (www.youtube.com/davidguetta), Music Videos; these are on the TV, music channels like the box and 4music show his songs on repeat, and also iTunes; this is where you can purchase his music videos and songs and watch/listen to them over and over, and also put them on your iPods and iPhones to show friends. Also since David is a Dance artist, it can be hard for Dance artists to get recognised, but now there is music channels such as 'MTV Dance' to show his sort of music.
Media Ideology:
The Ideology within this video is fun and partying. It meant to show and look like the video is all about having a good time, this is represented by what the artists are wearing, and what their expressions are on their faces. Everything within the video is happy, nothing is too down or sad and this is how we know that its meant to be like a party scene. Also because everyone is dancing you also know that its meant to be represented as a good time.
Mise-En Scene:
The scene is in a recording studio. The props used are the microphones, the DJ set, the speakers, laptops and phones. Most of the props used are technology based, showing the video is also up to date with technology and that its more of a modern music video. Fergie (Female Vocalist) is wearing very dark clothes and make up, but she has a rock chick vibe to her, this is to represent that she is a strong woman and that she is the lead within this song and video. Chris Willis, David Guetta and LMFAO are all wearing very casual clothes, this is to show that they are still a part of the music video but they are just behind what Fergie is doing, plus if they was wearing very party clothes, then we would know what to expect from the music video straight away, and the party scene is meant to be more of a surprise.
Advertisements:
Within this music video, there are lots of advertisements and promotions for many other products. There is the Samsung Phone, The Beats Headphones, and The Poker Website on the laptop, this is because the company's from each of these will have paid David and his record label to promote this on his music video, as they will know the music video will get a lot of attention. All of the promotions work well with the music and don't make it too obvious that it is a promotion. They have to make sure that they do work well other wise it can spoil the music video.
Media Institution:
Usher is also featured on this song with David Guetta. He is signed/ has been signed to Laface Records, Arista, Jive and now RCA. He is one of the top R&B artists of 2011, and has become famous with songs such as 'Burn','OMG', and 'DJ Got Us Fallin In Love Again'. He has worked with many artists, but this time he has paired up with David, which was quite unusual, a Dance and R&B star working together, but it works well. This song will again be distributed through, Youtube; This song was premiered on David's vevo channel, and got 3 million views within the first day of its premiere. iTunes; Again this is on iTunes to buy as a song or a video, this song got up to number 2 and still is climbing now up the iTunes chart. Also music channels; The Box played this song every hour when released and was featured on 4music's 10 biggest hits of the day multiple number of times.
Media Ideology:
The ideology for this video is meant to be that the world should come together, and also that it can fall apart when you miss someone or when you are left without them. It also has a party side to it, as most David Guetta video's do, I also think that its meant to say that when you go out and party, you get to see the world come together and everyone gets a long. The video is very colourful and its not a sad video considering that the song does have quite a strong message to it.
Mise-En Scene:
The Mise en scene within this video is very relaxed and casual, David and Usher are both wearing very casual clothes including jackets so it shows that song is a relaxing/chilling song. The setting is in the beach and also around the world in different locations, this is really good as it reaches out to different cultures and foreign audiences and fans of David's. At the beach again everyone is wearing very casual clothes, and it goes well with the song. There is also minimal make-up and none of it is noticeable and makes it look very natural.
Media Language:
This video is very simple, there is no dancing or major effects on this video, its striped back and bare, and I think this is the look Jessie J wanted for this video. The camera shots at the start are very continuous, it seems like its just one shot, then it goes to her on the bed and at the end, the shots start to get fast and flicker much more. The light is also something that really stands out, its a very cold blue colour the video which could mean that the video represents her feeling down and sad. Since the video does have a strong message, I think that the way the video is made, it suits the song well, the camera angles, lighting and setting all work well together. The only major effect in the video is the rain, at the end of the video.
Media Ideology:
Who You Are is about being yourself and not changing for anybody. This video is a simple video just of Jessie sat in a hotel room thinking, and miming the words to the song, at the end of the video it starts to rain and I think that the rain represents tears, and crying which is something which does feature in the video, because she wipes away a tear. The simpleness of the video means that you pay more attention to the lyrics and the song instead of just looking at the video. Since the song is sad, it couldn't have been to over the top and had lots of costumes and colour, because it wouldn't have suited the song or matched up at all leaving the audience confused, this works well.
Mise-en scene:
Jessie J in this video is wearing a see through top with a black corset bra underneath. It's a very simple outfit that she is wearing, and this matches the style of the video really well, in some of the shots, the black corset becomes a lot more obvious, which could represent darkness and what she is feeling. Where she is is just a simple hotel room with not much in it, this again represents simpleness and also it could represent loneliness, as there is nothing in the room but her. There is also some props, like the bed, and also the lamps, and the desk. The lamps start to smash when the water comes in, this could mean that the light is going off in her head, meaning she has finally realised something. Also the desk means that she can interact with the audience a lot more, and it gives it a more realistic look to it. Everything in the hotel room is also very traditional, there is very old wooden chairs and the room isn't modern and up to date, meaning that maybe her values and beliefs are also traditional.
Media Language:
The camera angles in this music video match what happens, the song has some speech in it, saying what the bullies would have said to her, this changes the scene and turn to them. There is lots of pans and tracks also within this music video, this to to show her and following around so you catch every move, and know what she is going through, for example, in the corridor scene when the little Jessie is walking down it, the camera tracks her every move, you get to see her facial expressions and get to know how to she feeling. The video is more of a story than anything, as it has an important message, its not just dancing and images unlike most videos of this Genre. There are many scene changes also within this video, for example at one point they are in the canteen then they are in the classroom. There is many shots to prove that bullying can happen anywhere in school, or even outside of school. There isnt many effects in the music video, this is because its meant to look real, if the music video had too many effects then it wouldnt have such a strong message and it wouldnt look very realistic.
Media Ideology:
This video is meant to be about bullying, and how you can overcome it. The message is meant to be about how bullying can affect someone, and how they can be strong even after whats happened. The message is even more stronger as Jessie J, the artist, is a strong anti bullying campaigner and also got bullied when she was at school, so this video is very important to her and you can tell through the story of the video. She is dressed up as many different characters
Mise-En-Scene:
There are many outfit changes in this music video, for the little Jessie in the video, she sticks to one outfit throughout the whole video. She is mainly wearing black in this video compared to the others, for example; the bullies, they are wearing pink which stands out and little girls love the colour pink usually, so the little Jessie wearing black shows that she is different and stands out and this could be why they are bullying her. Black could also represent darknes, so she could be feeling lonely against all the other people in her class. As you can see in the picture below the girl doesnt really look like that in real life, she looks just like an average little girl. So they have dressed her up to look like this.
Jessie J has many outfit changes within the video. She has a nude colour suit on when in classroom hiding behind the desk, this could represent her fading into the background and trying not to stand out, the black dots again could represent darkness, her been bullied in the past. Another outfit is the school teacher, she is wearing glasses to look more interlectual and also pink blazer tarten jacket, this is to show again that its really smart but the pink adds more edge, and makes it look abit cooler. She is also a dinner lady wearing the complete oppisite wearing a purple hat, orange scarf and blue top, dinner ladies usual colours are a pale blue and are very dull, they don't hardly wear make up either, this again will be her standing out from the crowd, which is something that she got bullied for in her younger days.
