There are lots of Genre's in the Music Industry, I have looked and researched them all to find out the codes and conventions of them. I will also be researching my chosen Genre which is Dance. I have looked at different music videos, styles and also artists to see what each individual Genre does differently to another.
What an artist wears and their image is what can separate different music genres. If an artist didn't wear the right clothes or have their hair in a certain way it would be hard for the audience to know what genre of music they represent. Also they have to dress to the target audience they are representing, for example, Miley Cyrus caused outrage when she started dressing with small crop tops and tiny hot pants, as her audience was mainly children under the age of 10, as she was Disney Channels Hannah Montana. She lost a lot of her fan base when she did this, so making sure you don't dress nothing like your music is a big no. She did change her music though and the look eventually did go along with her music.
Pop - The clothes what Pop artists usually wear are very colourful, and are clothes that you wouldn't usually see a normal person on the street wearing. Since the music is always very upbeat as well, they have to make sure that the outfits that they wear match the music. Since Pop is mainstream music this is music that is listened to and seen everyday, so its a big must that Pop artists are careful with what they look like. Most Pop artists are girls, there are still boys who do this genre, but its mainly known for girls. Its also caused lots of controversy as most Pop artists are slim with good bodies and there are a lot of people who think that this is all Pop music is about now is how the artists looks and not about the talent or the music they bring out. Katy Perry (Pictured Right) is a great example of a Pop Artist. She wears bright colours, has a slim figure, and even has brightly coloured hair. Also Pop artists tend to be young and good looking, its very rare you see old Pop artists, and if so its because they started out young and have grown.
Dance - With Dance artists, their image is not as important as other genres of music. Its very rare that you know what they even look like. Artists like Chase and Status, Deadmau5 and Nero, you never hardly see them at all. I think the reason is because they don't want to be your typical mainstream artist. They only want to be known for the music, and not what they look like. One of the few artists that do show their face is David Guetta, he appears in most of his music videos and album covers, even if in the videos he only makes a five second appearance, he is still in them. They mainly dress casual if you do see them, in jeans and a t shirt, clothes you would see on everyday people, some do dress up too, for example; Deadmau5, he wears a massive mouses head to every gig he plays, this is because he doesn't want people to know what he looks like, and people still don't, but listen to his music. I guess that it doesn't matter what you look like if the music is good.
Indie - Indie Artists tend to make their look as if they haven't tried at all, they are not polished and they are always on their guitars or other instruments. The boy bands wear skinny jeans and have big hair, or really messy hair. They never really make an effort, but in the Indie scene this is a good thing. Their audiences like to see them like this. Bands like The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys and The Wombats are all Indie artists who never really look like they have made the effort. They look like everyday people, and wear really casual clothes. The colours they do wear are usually black, grey and white, and if not its dark colours, so navy and dark greens. I think this again is because they want it to be all about the music. Also its more often that Indie artists do drugs, smoke and drink, and in their case this is seen as cool. So in their music videos, in candid pictures and when on tour they will do probably all of the three.
Rock - This is the Genre which is also very based around their look. They always wear black, and if its not black, then its very dark colours. There is mainly male bands in the Rock Genre, and they tend to have very long hair, and beards, well this is the stereotypical look of a rock artist. If its a female Rock artist, they have very dark hair and wear a lot of make up. Girls also like to wear corsets, gloves and things that are dark and quite Gothic. They also like themes too, so maybe vampires, and dark themes like that. They also don't look very well groomed either, as the same for the Indie artists. When you look in magazines like Kerrang everything in general is usually dark and sometimes quite creepy. They have a very strict audience that do like to dress like this, and Rock is becoming more and more popular.
R&B - This kind of Genre is usually very bling and flash. The artist is always seen as they are rich and have loads of money. Most of the music videos are filmed in very flashy places and they have lots of cars and jewellery. They are quite classy with what they do, the colours are usually colours like gold, silver and black. They are stereotyped to have lots of of money. The male artists also are known to always have a girl around their arm. R&B is becoming more of a popular genre, so its becoming more and more mainstream, the artists also use different language to a normal everyday person, they use words like Swag and Shawty which again are becoming more popular. The clothes they wear are usually baggy or if not they are suited up. There are many different R&B Artists, Cee Lo Green, Chris Brown and Akon are all examples.
The target audiences for them all are all different. R&B is usually older people, around the age of 20 is the target audience, also a lot of black people listen to this genre, they usually sing about what this target audience want to hear about, and also the artists are usually around the age of twenty so this makes them very relatable. Rocks target audience is usually people around the age of 18+, as they do swear and scream and shout abit, someone under that age would usually need parent advisory and also they relate to older people. Indie artists target audience is people again around the of 16+ this time, younger people are starting to like the genre a lot more and is becoming even more popular, as younger people are starting to listen to older indie music too. The reason for it being 16+ is because its relate-able to them as some are starting to smoke ect and this is what this genres artists do. Pop is the most versatile genre. Most people listen to this as its very mainstream, all ages can listen to this, young children, older people and also people in their 30's, the reason is because the usually sing about happy things like having a good time and everyone can relate to this. Also since they are played on the radio everyday, everyday people get to hear them and start to like them, as for other genres, they dont all get played on the radio as often.
The style and image on an artist is very important, its how the audience see them every day and also what can represent them in many ways. Lady Gaga is someone who uses her costume and style to influence on everything she does, including her music videos, events and also interviews, she always has to look her best to make sure that the audience are never seeing her in a different light. Style can either make or break an artist too,if you have bad styling, everything can go wrong for you. The audience also like to copy and mimic everything that their favourite artists do and style is on top of the list. Rihanna is a great example of an artist who's style is always changing and this is something that she does on purpose, she calls them Era's in her life and her style is something that makes up that era. Her style will run throughout the album process until she brings out a new album, so basically every year her style is changing. If Rihanna didn't change her style and keep up to date she would lose a lot of her audience, but she makes sure that she doesn't change too much, as again she would lose her audience of fans by changing too much, and she still sticks to her roots.
In 2005, Rihanna started out with her first album 'Music Of The Sun', She had her own look but it wasn't anything special, it was very basic and plain, she was a girl from Barbados who just got signed and the look was obvious and matched what was happening. Since this was when she first started off, the look worked for her and many of the audience could relate to how she looked as most of them looked the same. It was obvious that she had time to grow and become better as an artist. Her album at the time was 'Music Of The Sun', her music was more reggae and it went well with her image. One of the reasons the audience liked her was because she was relatable and also something different, she was also fun at this point, and none of her music was too serious.
Rihanna - If It's Lovin That You Want
By looking at her video for 'If It's Lovin That You Want' you can see that she is just starting off, everything about Rihanna is new and its also clean, none of what she is doing is explicit, which was also right because of her age. She made everything right for an artist who was just coming on to the music scene as she wanted to make a good impression. Her clothes again matched what was happening around that time, and this will have been what most people will have been wearing. Doing something a bit more different at first could have made the audience put off, so starting off safe with her style made sure that she was going to be a successful artist.
After her first album it was then in 2006 when Rihanna released 'A Girl Like Me' her second album which again still had the same vibe to it, but that little bit more up tempo and upbeat. This is when she brought out SOS, and her look changed. This was one of the first times we had seen Rihanna looking more like a star then her just looking like an average everyday girl. She started to straighten her hair and go for more of a dance vibe, although there was still aspects of the first album mixed in, it was still a big change from the girl we saw at first. She also started to wear more explicit clothing and much more make up to what we was used to at first, her dancing in the video's as well was more explicit and her whole image changed. This matched what was happening at the time though, as many artists was doing the same. If Rihanna didn't change her look, it wouldn't have shown growth as an artist, so changing was the right thing to do, and her success was the proof. Her hair was the biggest change, as we was used to more of a natural look at the start of her career, but the straight hair made her more up to date and current, she couldn't have kept her hair like this all the time, other wise the audience would have got bored.
Rihanna - SOS
The video for 'SOS' was a big change for Rihanna. In her earlier videos like 'If It's Lovin That You Want' there is a dance sequence, but its not explicit at all. This video is much more explicit, it has more skin on show, and also the dancing is very different. Its much more intimate and also it shows a different side to her that the audience hadn't seen. They was used to this new girl on the scene from Barbados, and this was more of what we have seen other artists doing, her making this big change brought her onto the level what other artists was on and it got her more and more attention just from changing her image.
In 2007 it was a massive change for Rihanna, Jay Z has signed her to his record label, he is one of the biggest names in Hip Hop meaning that her style of music was going to change, and not only her music but also her look. Def Jam is one of the biggest record labels in the world, so making sure that her image was right was a big deal and changing it drastically worked for her. This was when Rihanna became the most successful, she got a number 1 with her song umbrella and this was when we saw a huge difference in image. She cut her hair into the famous bob, dyed it black and wore completely different clothes. This was nothing like what we has seen before, you wouldn't be able to tell that just a couple of years ago she was just starting out, so the look paid off and made a big difference, it made her more of an artist.
Rihanna - Umbrella (Feat. Jay Z)
The 'Umbrella' video was the first video in which Jay Z had signed her, and it was a huge shock to the audience. The video and her new look got a great response and the song was a UK Number 1 was many weeks. It was a big risk for Rihanna to change her look so drastically and also her type of music but everything she did fitted in with what was going on at that time, for example; the song, the UK had floods all over the country, meaning more people bought the song and also her look matched what everyone was doing at that point and she also started off trends as a lot of people started to copy her hair cut and also her make-up. The album was called 'Good Girl Gone Bad' which also shows that she was going to change. There is also other videos like 'Shut Up and Drive' which was brought out in the same year, these are all edgier video's, as time goes on you can see Rihanna becoming more and more edgy, and also making sure that she is relevant and up to date with everything including what's happening and the style
Rihanna - Take A Bow
Also in 2008, Rihanna didn't release a new album, she just re released her old album and added new bonus tracks to it. She released 'Take A Bow' which she striped back for a while, she cut her hair even shorter and when very basic and simple, she didn't keep this hair cut for very long, but people still liked this look and again started to copy, it was even a trend for star tattoo's, which Rihanna has on the back of her neck. Her image was starting to get even bigger, and people really was interested in what Rihanna was going to do next, what hair colour and cut she was going to have, if she was going to get any more tattoo's and also what clothes and style of music she would be doing next, and this is what an artist wants, their style to be recognized.
2009 was when Rihanna then brought out her album 'Rated R'. Again her style changed, and this time it was more for a Rock look. She changed her hair, the colour and the cut and even took to the extreme of shaving the side of her head. People again was copying her style and wanting to look like her. Her music changed the most and people wasn't used to seeing Rihanna like this. She also started to reveal much more skin than usual and was seen as very explicit, it became worrying to parents and made Rihanna more for the older audience's. This was a new Era for Rihanna and she was just experimenting. This was also when Rihanna started to be more explicit and started to bring more sex into her music, she did explicit photo shoots and also revealed much more in her music videos, which the audience hadn't really seen her do before, although she has shown some explicit scenes in other music video's none was quite like these scenes in any of 'Rated R' tracks she brought out, For example in 'Wait Your Turn', she is wearing less clothes and in 'Te Amo' the lyrics are explicit and so is the video.
Rihanna - Hard
This music video was very explicit. She did a different theme, changed her look and her dancing and the way she acts is much more different. Although she is only young, she started to act much more older and at this point, her music wasn't doing as well as her other songs and albums had been doing. This just proves that image can also knock an artist down, and if the image isn't right, it means that sales will go down and also people will get a different impression of the artist, although her album didn't do terrible, it was the worst sales for Rihanna yet, meaning that she had to find yet another style to get people back on board and bring all the attention back on to her again.
After the Rated R came 'LOUD', Rihanna's 5th Studio Album, in 2010/2011 Rihanna again radically changed her look, she went from being a tomboy rock girl, to being very girly with red hair. This was when the audience started to do what she did, since she dyed her hair it was a huge trend around early 2011 to dye your hair bright red, girls was also becoming much more girly, and this was all down to Rihanna. She was still explicit in video's, including 'S&M' which was banned because of the outrage of parents, this didn't stop her though and she still carried on being the same person, which is why Rihanna is so popular, she did this many years ago and knows it works, so she did it again, and although it was banned it didn't bring down her success. This look carried on for a while and she even brought it on tour with her but still changing her look every step of the way, this being the style of her hair or the outfits, she still had that loud bright hair, and this is what was good, the style matched what the music was about.
Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)
'Only Girl (In The World)' was the first video after the 'Rated R' album. This was yet again another shock to fans after they had seen her do rock, she came out with a fun Pop/Dance song. The look is red hair and also very colourful make up and clothes. The clothes and the make-up really work well together with the song, even the effects in the video match the song. She still dances in the video, but its not so much choreographed moves like we have seen in previous video's she has done, this is because I think you see more of her the artist rather than other people, her video's in this Era also started to be more like stories, and not just fun video's, like 'Man Down' about her shooting someone and also 'What's My Name' where it was more of a romantic video. Rihanna makes sure that the audience see her in different ways, so you can see the fun side of her and also the more serious side. Every video from the 'LOUD' album is very different but they all have her with red hair and they all have that same colourful theme. 'Cheers (Drink To That)' was a video in which Rihanna used home footage and also tour footage which gave us an in sight to her home life, and you saw yet another image, a more raw and natural look and style, also it shows you her real hair and that the red hair is just a wig, this made us feel like we knew the artist more and what she is really like.
This is Rihanna's current image and style. In late 2011, Rihanna decided to dye her hair brown, her natural hair colour, and although the hair colour wasn't a drastic change her style was. She is now dressing much more edgier and sexier. This is because this is now what is in style. She is wearing shorts, bandanna's and also changing her music, she is now doing more Dance music and this is because its what popular at the moment. Her new album has lots of different style's of music but its much more edgy than any of her other stuff. The audience are still copying what she is doing though, and her style is becoming more and more up to date and relevant, she is starting the trends instead of following them like what she did at the very start of her career and it also makes us see her differently, she is now again looking more natural and her image is still changing.
Rihanna - We Found Love (Feat. Calvin Harris)
This music video is like none she has ever done before, it has much more meaning than the others and it has no dance moves, its more like a story and brings the audience in much more. Her clothes are realistic and are what you would see normal everyday people wear. I think that she is relating more and more to the audience as time goes on and she just keeps growing as an artist, not only in her style but also in her music. Making sure that she is up to date is a key aspect for Rihanna, this is what has made her so successful, is that she knows what the audience like especially style wise and she knows what they will copy, and this is what she will think about when making any album cover or music video, will the audience wear this or something similar? Because not only do the audience feel good, but it will also bring in more publicity as an artist for Rihanna and make her more popular, which is why style is so important.
I am going to try and make sure that in my own music video, I represent the style really well and try and get across what style my artist is. I think that the styling of an artist is very important and is one of the main reason's a star is a star. I should try and make sure that the styling suits the music video genre and look of the video and also it creates an image for the star, it can make them different from everyone else and using style can express this. I hope I can take some aspects of what Rihanna has done and put them into my own music video, and although Rihanna is not from my chosen Genre she is still a great example of how style really can change how your artist is seen, how they are seen and how their music has to match the image. I want to also make sure that the style isn't boring and something that you have already seen before, which again is what Rihanna does.
Youtube is a way that artists now get their music out there and known. It's becoming more and more popular now that the internet has a huge influence on people's everyday life. Not only has Youtube let the artist let the audience see their music videos first, its also been a platform for many artists to get into the music business.
Justin Bieber was an artist at the age of 12 started posting Youtube videos of him from home just singing a few songs and entering talent competitions, he had his own profile and started getting popular in which people started to ask for requests of songs for him to sing. The more popular he got, the more attention he got, not only from a young girl audience but also from music producers wanting to sign him. He got the attention of Scooter Braun, this is the man who made him the international star he is today.
Justin Bieber - With You (Chris Brown Cover)
This is Justin Bieber singing 'With You' by Chris Brown, he started off singing covers by other artists after the requests. When he got a record deal and started getting famous, he still connected with the fans through his starting platform, Youtube. There is also many other artists that have got famous through Youtube, including Esmee Denters and Greyson Chance.
Youtube is a great place to distribute music, and this is why im choosing it to put my music video on to. Its also great to see the feedback as it has a comment section and you can also see the amount of views the video has gotten. Without Youtube it would be hard to see the artists music videos just on TV, and also not only does it show the music videos but also behind the scene videos, like what they do in their spare time and also about their tour and other stuff about the artist that the audience would be interested in.
Vevo is also another part of Youtube, that most artists do have, they have a Vevo page in which its easy to see the offical video, and its always high quality unlike other Youtube channels that might not have the high quality offical video, you also know its trustworthy and coming from the original artist. Vevo.com is also where you cans see the newest music videos and they also have an app where they give you a notification on a new video so you are always up to date on new music videos.
YouTube and other video sites have also meant that people all over the world can look at an artist's video, so even people in places like China can see what UK artists are doing by clicking onto their YouTube page. Also they all have YouTube Channels, they might be Vevo accounts or official accounts but either way you know the source is real and also they can comment on videos and keep you up to date with what they are doing, which is what I want my artist to be able to do.
The reason I am researching my target audience is because this will help me see what they like and include any aspects of the things they like and use them in my own video. Also I can see what they do, and also try to make sure it appeals them as they would be the people to buy the music and watch the video. If you don't do some research to find out what they like and do then its hard to appeal to the audience and this is why some artists fail, as they don't target the people who are buying their music, knowing your audience is important.
My target audience are people of the age around 16-19. The reason for this is because the song isn't something younger people can relate to as much as this target audience and also older people usually don't like this type of music, I also think its something you would hear at a party or at a club, so I think this target audience is also suitable, this target audience age is also meant to be going through what's called a 'discovery period' in their life's so this song is sort of suiting that.. I think that single people will relate to this song more than people in a relationship, but I still think people in a relationship can relate to this song, so I think its relates to about 60 to 40 in single and in a relationship. Girls and Boys can both relate to this song, so I think that both will pay attention to the video and both be interested equally as much as each other, and also because its a collaboration of a female and male artist, this will attract both genders.
I have thought about what people this age (16-19) would do and also what they like and dislike, this is to help me with my music video and also creating the artist. If I look at what they like and dislike then it means that I can add them in on the music video to attract them or I can make sure that they have some of these things incorpatered in my artist as they will be the same age.

They like to experiment with make up and style and they also like looking after their appearance.
Music Genres They Listen To; Pop, Dance, R&B
Also looking at what purchases they make will help me with some designs to my music video, then I know I can incorporate these into my video, so for instance if they like drinking alcohol, then I know that maybe I just advertise or add some alcohol into my music video to grab the audiences attention. I think that this is very important and its done within most music video's today is advertising, like for example Beats headphones, people know these are popular so most artists now have these in their videos as they know if they are seen with them then the audience will buy them or think I have them so I must be cool.
Males

By looking at all this information it should help me when making my music video, then I can see what to include into it and look at this and think well this gender likes this so I have to add this, it means that I am getting the audience involved in my video, If I added in things that the audience didn't like then they wont like the video and end up not supporting the artist.

David Guetta - Getting Over You (Feat. Fergie, Chris Willis, & LMFAO)
Media Language:
This video starts off in a recording studio with David Guetta and the other artists recording in the studio. The camera angles on this part of the music video are very natural and make it look like the camera is meant to be there, but as if its recording a 'Behind The Scenes' video. I think the way its filmed looks very natural, although when the extras come in to make it more of a party scene, its then when it looks more like a real music video. The lighting is very natural, when the scenes start outside, there is very natural light, of course coming from the sun, but inside its more dark, but still there is only a few lights. For example; When Chris Willis is singing in the video, there is only one light behind him, This could represent the spotlight is on him, because he is singing, and taking the spotlight. There is many close up shots of the singers when in the recording studio, this is so the audience can see more of the star and know who's singing which parts. There is also lots of long shots when the crowd from outside are coming in, this is so you can see the growth and the amount of people that are coming to party.
Media Institution:
David Guetta is signed to EMI Music France and Virgin Records. I think that who the artist is signed to is very important within the music industry, as all record labels distribute their artist differently, as for David Guetta, you dont know much about his personal life, its all about the music. David Guetta is also just the DJ, he never sings in any of his songs, so making sure he gets enough publicity and credit for his songs is crucial. His songs are distributed on Youtube; this is so he can get known and his fans all over the world can see all his music videos (www.youtube.com/davidguetta), Music Videos; these are on the TV, music channels like the box and 4music show his songs on repeat, and also iTunes; this is where you can purchase his music videos and songs and watch/listen to them over and over, and also put them on your iPods and iPhones to show friends. Also since David is a Dance artist, it can be hard for Dance artists to get recognised, but now there is music channels such as 'MTV Dance' to show his sort of music.
Media Ideology:
The Ideology within this video is fun and partying. It meant to show and look like the video is all about having a good time, this is represented by what the artists are wearing, and what their expressions are on their faces. Everything within the video is happy, nothing is too down or sad and this is how we know that its meant to be like a party scene. Also because everyone is dancing you also know that its meant to be represented as a good time.
Mise-En Scene:
The scene is in a recording studio. The props used are the microphones, the DJ set, the speakers, laptops and phones. Most of the props used are technology based, showing the video is also up to date with technology and that its more of a modern music video. Fergie (Female Vocalist) is wearing very dark clothes and make up, but she has a rock chick vibe to her, this is to represent that she is a strong woman and that she is the lead within this song and video. Chris Willis, David Guetta and LMFAO are all wearing very casual clothes, this is to show that they are still a part of the music video but they are just behind what Fergie is doing, plus if they was wearing very party clothes, then we would know what to expect from the music video straight away, and the party scene is meant to be more of a surprise.
Advertisements:
Within this music video, there are lots of advertisements and promotions for many other products. There is the Samsung Phone, The Beats Headphones, and The Poker Website on the laptop, this is because the company's from each of these will have paid David and his record label to promote this on his music video, as they will know the music video will get a lot of attention. All of the promotions work well with the music and don't make it too obvious that it is a promotion. They have to make sure that they do work well other wise it can spoil the music video.
David Guetta - Without You (Feat. Usher)
Media Institution:
Usher is also featured on this song with David Guetta. He is signed/ has been signed to Laface Records, Arista, Jive and now RCA. He is one of the top R&B artists of 2011, and has become famous with songs such as 'Burn','OMG', and 'DJ Got Us Fallin In Love Again'. He has worked with many artists, but this time he has paired up with David, which was quite unusual, a Dance and R&B star working together, but it works well. This song will again be distributed through, Youtube; This song was premiered on David's vevo channel, and got 3 million views within the first day of its premiere. iTunes; Again this is on iTunes to buy as a song or a video, this song got up to number 2 and still is climbing now up the iTunes chart. Also music channels; The Box played this song every hour when released and was featured on 4music's 10 biggest hits of the day multiple number of times.
Media Ideology:
The ideology for this video is meant to be that the world should come together, and also that it can fall apart when you miss someone or when you are left without them. It also has a party side to it, as most David Guetta video's do, I also think that its meant to say that when you go out and party, you get to see the world come together and everyone gets a long. The video is very colourful and its not a sad video considering that the song does have quite a strong message to it.
Mise-En Scene:
The Mise en scene within this video is very relaxed and casual, David and Usher are both wearing very casual clothes including jackets so it shows that song is a relaxing/chilling song. The setting is in the beach and also around the world in different locations, this is really good as it reaches out to different cultures and foreign audiences and fans of David's. At the beach again everyone is wearing very casual clothes, and it goes well with the song. There is also minimal make-up and none of it is noticeable and makes it look very natural.
Jessie J
Jessica Ellen Cornish is a 23 year old London born singer signed to Island Records. She started her career in 2006 when she did song-writing for the likes of Miley Cyrus and Chris Brown, it wasn't until 2010 when she released 'Do It Like A Dude' when Jessie J became famous and well known both in the UK and US. Justin Timberlake is a big fan of Jessie's and has said she has one of the best voices in the business, also Selena Gomez is a huge fan and tweeted about her. Jessie J has already won a Brit, had a number 1 single and number 2 album. She has also been confirmed as a judge on The Voice UK.
Jessie J - Who You Are
Media Language:
This video is very simple, there is no dancing or major effects on this video, its striped back and bare, and I think this is the look Jessie J wanted for this video. The camera shots at the start are very continuous, it seems like its just one shot, then it goes to her on the bed and at the end, the shots start to get fast and flicker much more. The light is also something that really stands out, its a very cold blue colour the video which could mean that the video represents her feeling down and sad. Since the video does have a strong message, I think that the way the video is made, it suits the song well, the camera angles, lighting and setting all work well together. The only major effect in the video is the rain, at the end of the video.
Media Ideology:
Who You Are is about being yourself and not changing for anybody. This video is a simple video just of Jessie sat in a hotel room thinking, and miming the words to the song, at the end of the video it starts to rain and I think that the rain represents tears, and crying which is something which does feature in the video, because she wipes away a tear. The simpleness of the video means that you pay more attention to the lyrics and the song instead of just looking at the video. Since the song is sad, it couldn't have been to over the top and had lots of costumes and colour, because it wouldn't have suited the song or matched up at all leaving the audience confused, this works well.
Mise-en scene:
Jessie J in this video is wearing a see through top with a black corset bra underneath. It's a very simple outfit that she is wearing, and this matches the style of the video really well, in some of the shots, the black corset becomes a lot more obvious, which could represent darkness and what she is feeling. Where she is is just a simple hotel room with not much in it, this again represents simpleness and also it could represent loneliness, as there is nothing in the room but her. There is also some props, like the bed, and also the lamps, and the desk. The lamps start to smash when the water comes in, this could mean that the light is going off in her head, meaning she has finally realised something. Also the desk means that she can interact with the audience a lot more, and it gives it a more realistic look to it. Everything in the hotel room is also very traditional, there is very old wooden chairs and the room isn't modern and up to date, meaning that maybe her values and beliefs are also traditional.
Jessie J - Who's Laughing Now
Media Language:
The camera angles in this music video match what happens, the song has some speech in it, saying what the bullies would have said to her, this changes the scene and turn to them. There is lots of pans and tracks also within this music video, this to to show her and following around so you catch every move, and know what she is going through, for example, in the corridor scene when the little Jessie is walking down it, the camera tracks her every move, you get to see her facial expressions and get to know how to she feeling. The video is more of a story than anything, as it has an important message, its not just dancing and images unlike most videos of this Genre. There are many scene changes also within this video, for example at one point they are in the canteen then they are in the classroom. There is many shots to prove that bullying can happen anywhere in school, or even outside of school. There isnt many effects in the music video, this is because its meant to look real, if the music video had too many effects then it wouldnt have such a strong message and it wouldnt look very realistic.
Media Ideology:
This video is meant to be about bullying, and how you can overcome it. The message is meant to be about how bullying can affect someone, and how they can be strong even after whats happened. The message is even more stronger as Jessie J, the artist, is a strong anti bullying campaigner and also got bullied when she was at school, so this video is very important to her and you can tell through the story of the video. She is dressed up as many different characters
Mise-En-Scene:
There are many outfit changes in this music video, for the little Jessie in the video, she sticks to one outfit throughout the whole video. She is mainly wearing black in this video compared to the others, for example; the bullies, they are wearing pink which stands out and little girls love the colour pink usually, so the little Jessie wearing black shows that she is different and stands out and this could be why they are bullying her. Black could also represent darknes, so she could be feeling lonely against all the other people in her class. As you can see in the picture below the girl doesnt really look like that in real life, she looks just like an average little girl. So they have dressed her up to look like this.
Jessie J has many outfit changes within the video. She has a nude colour suit on when in classroom hiding behind the desk, this could represent her fading into the background and trying not to stand out, the black dots again could represent darkness, her been bullied in the past. Another outfit is the school teacher, she is wearing glasses to look more interlectual and also pink blazer tarten jacket, this is to show again that its really smart but the pink adds more edge, and makes it look abit cooler. She is also a dinner lady wearing the complete oppisite wearing a purple hat, orange scarf and blue top, dinner ladies usual colours are a pale blue and are very dull, they don't hardly wear make up either, this again will be her standing out from the crowd, which is something that she got bullied for in her younger days.
This music video has some stylistics that I hope to use on my music video. I like the graphics that are on this music video and although the people who did this music video will have been very expereienced, I really hope that I can do something simlar. I also want my music video to be colourful, and this video is colourful, and goes really well with the song. This will be hard to do myself, because the writing is very high quality too, but I'm hoping that my idea of the writing of 'Repeat' will look just as good as this. I don't want my video to look exactly the same as this, because I dont think that in my own music video, I will be going out on the street, having dance routines, or having this many graphics, but this is just to show that I want my writing graphics to hopefully be this good, and work really well with my song.
Rihanna - Rude Boy
This music video is very colourful, and I really want mine to be colourful like this. I like the way that the video has been effected, and how the costume and Mise-En Scene are. Again, everything works well with the song, and since the song does have that reggae vibe to it, Rihanna has used these colours within the video. This is why on my music video, I hope to use colours that also match my song in some way. I don't want any dance routines in my music video, I want it to be un-chereogrpahed and hopefully I will still get something just as good. Also, I have'nt had experience with working with colours expect from photoshop, so I'm not sure if I will be any good, but hopefully it will work well and the colour side of the video will look similar.
Chris Brown - I Can Transform Ya
This music video has a lot of graphics involved, its also quite a simple video at the same time, the background is white, I really like this effect and I dont think that the video comes across as tacky. Even though I wont have any choreographed moves in my music video, I still like the way its been produced, Also I like the costume within the video, its very smart and everyone matches with the song. I want my music video to have a good costume and Mise-En-Scene.
Kanye West - Good Life
Again, this video is very similar to the Chris Brown video in the aspect of it having the same white background with colourful graphics. I love all of the grahpics in the music video and the way they match so well with the lyrics. I think that its a fun music video, and it's very clever in the way its done. Even though I am not very experienced in graphic design, I hope that my graphics will look something like this on my music video.
Describe how you developed your skills in the use of digital technology for media production and evaluate how these skills contributed to your creative decision making. Refer to a range of examples in your answer to show how these developed over time.
I started my AS project with little knowledge on what to do. I have had a little experience using Photoshop, but also took Media in GCSE, so I knew something about the project, but not much. We was set the task of making a college magazine at first, to get used to what was ahead of us, then we made a front cover, double page spread, and contents page of a music magazine, with a genre of choice.
So when making the magazine cover, and making my images better, so adding effects, I found this quite easy, like adding colour effects, making them brighter and making them standing out more on the cover, I found this easy because I had previous experience doing this, but when it came to cutting around the images and adding different backgrounds, I found this very difficult. I think the reason being that it didn't look realistic, and when its a professional music magazine, you cant tell its been done on Photoshop, it look realistic and I found it hard making it look realistic.
In the planning stages, research was key, on making our magazine a success. This was very easy for me. Looking at other magazines and comparing them to what I hoped mine to look like was one of the first stages of my planning, then looking at what genre my magazine was going to be and looking at genres of the same kind. I also researched my target age group, I looked at what magazines which ages already read, and made sure that my music magazine had the same elements to suit my target audience. I also looked at the artists in that genre, too see what elements they use in their music videos, and tried to incorporate them in my magazine.
I posted all of my research and planning on blogger.com, a blogging website. I created my own AS Media blog and posted all of my work onto here. I think that its good to post all of the work onto here as it means that its more interactive. It also means I could add pictures, videos and hyperlinks, this way it was more understandable and less boring. Posting on Blogger also meant that I could create blogs and get audience feedback, ask questions and find the answer. It also meant that I could access this at home and college. I think that blogger meant that we could express ourselves better too instead of boring writing on word. We could make our blogs creative and make them more interesting too. Also with all the poll questions answered it meant that we could go back and improve on what had been said about the work.
Using the internet was another big help. Without the internet then it would have been hard to have researched most of what I did. I looked on Goggle to find out about magazine companys and what they did. I also researched artists and genres. Blogger is also apart of the internet so it was a massive help to use this. Youtube also helped me, it meant that I could go on this website and research artists, and plan what to put into my magazine. By looking on youtube for the Miley Cyrus video, it meant I could look at what people her age, so the target audience like to do, and this helped me put elements of what they do like into my magazine to keep them interested.
I also used publisher to create a small questionairre to ask what people liked and didnt like about my magazine. This helped also for me to improve on what I had done. One of the reasons I used publisher was because it makes it easy for adding pictures and colourful fonts. I also planned out my drafts onto publisher, this way it was easy to see how my magazine contents page could be laid out and how it would look. I also did better drafts of where what would go on publisher. Publisher helped me a lot and I kept going back to this to see what I could do with my magazine.
Talking to people was another mode of how I did my researching and planning, seeing what the target audience, so people my own age, what they liked to see in magazines, especially music magazines, like what the pictures they expect to see and what colour scheme would suit a music magazine. this helped a lot because it was facts and true information from the people who buy the magazines. I would definantly do this again in the planning stages, just talking to people as it means that you get a different idea on what other people think should go into a magazine, so when doing all my planning for the music video in A2, I will be asking people what they think of music videos and what they like to see, as then I know that if I do what they say, then the music video will be to the target audiences liking.
When going on to A2, I will use most of my research and planning methods that I did on the AS course, this is because I think that the researching part of it was successful, and using resources like the internet helped me a lot and was seen as very successful. I will also use some of the planning methods, but maybe a few more hand written thoughts and ideas would help me as these are more from the top of my head, I think most of my planning and research was about looking on the internet and not enough quick thoughts.
In the future I will use most of these planning and research elements again. I think that the internet, blogger, youtube, publisher and word are all good to use, and without these it would have been hard to even start the music magazine. This has showed me what planning and researching does when designing something new and what the industry has to go through in order to create something.
The reason I have decided to anaylise these music videos is because they are the same genre of my own music video, which is Dance.
Tinchy Stryder - Off The Record (Feat. Calvin Harris)
Media Language:
The music video has been shot in Las Vegas, this music video is quite literal, as the lyrics do match what happens on screen and what the audience can see. For example; The lyrics are "My Life Is Like A Roller-coaster", the music video has Tinchy on a roller-coaster in Las Vegas, He also mentions Las Vegas in the song. So it means that the audience can actually see what Tinchy wants to bring across, the music video wouldn't match if he was in a different location. The camera angles are also very fast paced and there is lot of cuts within the music video, I think that this represents that his life is so fast paced now, and this is kind of what the song is about, how good his life is now. Also when the roller-coaster scenes come on, the camera pans and follows them everywhere, it also isn't perfect in the way it moves, there are some shakes, so this is trying to show that his life is like a roller-coaster in that it isn't perfect, he does have his ups and downs. Then when it comes to the night scene, the camera again is following him everywhere, like its trying to show a documentary of his life, what its like and what he does and how he likes to party. There is also scenes of just Tinchy singing the lyrics, I think the reason for this is so you see more of the artist, what hes really like and what hes wearing, it also gets your more involved with the lyrics. The shot also of an overview of Las Vegas has lights flashing in it, this shot has been speeded up and creates again a really fast paced movement, showing that his life is fast paced. A scene in the music video is a part also when the music suddenly changes and the scene becomes blurry, then the scenes and cuts start to change, firstly it becomes really slow and things are re winded a little bit, the camera also becomes more shaky and off focus, this represents more of the party scene and because its re winded, it could mean that he wants to do this over and over again, more of the party lifestyle he seems to be leading in the video.
Media Institution:
Tinchy Stryder is a 25 year old rapper. He is known for his brand 'Star In The Hood', hes done tracks with N-Dubz, Taio Cruz, Tinie Tempah and Chipmunk. He has had two number one singles in the UK, and is signed to Universal Island Records and also signed to his own label with Jay-Z, Takeover Roc Nation. Tinchy has been on the music scene since 1997, but has only recently in 2007 become known. Tinchy was first a Grime artist, and only rapped, recently though, Tinchy started new things, On his album 'Take Off' there was a mixture of songs including Pop, Grime, and Hip-Hop, but this song 'Off The Record' is something completely different, he has hooked up with Calvin Harris who is massive in the Dance music industry to maybe do something new for Tinchy. Tinchy is also like many other Grime and Dance artists, they find it hard to distribute their music, only channels like 'Channel AKA and Flava' where playing these types of songs but now they are all over the music channels as they are growing more popular with the audience. You also watch his videos on sites like YouTube, where not only do they have his music videos they have behind the scenes looks so you can see more of what Tinchy is really like and also conversations and interviews with him. There is also iTunes where you can buy his music, also sites like HMV, and Amazon where you can buy his music and directly put them on your iPod or phones. Also on iTunes not only can you buy the song but you can buy the video too.
Media Ideology:
This music video is about Tinchy's life. I think that its about how he has come from nothing to being the person that he is today. I think that the roller-coaster represents his life, he does have his ups and downs, there is also spins and things he cant control like in a roller-coaster. This music video is really all about the party lifestyle, so im guessing this is the life he leads now. The video is generally a very happy video, and everyone is dancing and having a good time. There is also gambling, riding around in a flash car, money, and stood on top of the roof in this video, I think that the film 'The Hangover' could have had some influence on this video.
The reason is because 'The Hangover' is also set in Las Vegas, and its all about going on a boys vacation, full of girls, money and alcohol. There is also scenes within the film which are very similar to the Tinchy Stryder video but they have a little UK spin on them, For example, There is the parts where Tinchy is singing the song, on a rooftop, well in The Hangover (Pictured Above) there is a scene where they all go to the top of a Las Vegas hotel rooftop to take shots. It all seems very similar, and I think that Tinchy thought about this when making the music video.
Mise En Scene:
The music video again, is shot in Las Vegas, America. The video also has a very american feel to it, the shots are quite faded and 'dusty' as most american shot films and videos are. There is many props in this video too, there is money, cars, everything seen as flash. There is also scenes in a casino/gambling room with slot machines and money machines, There is also a scene with a cake which is given to Tinchy, this could represent how far hes come and that people are proud of him.The clothes worn in the video are quite casual by Tinchy. In the picture below its shown what he is wearing in different scenes.
In the first picture, this is the clothing he wears when singing the lyrics, and standing on top of the roof in the daylight, he is wearing very casual clothes, which shows he is very relaxed. The colour blue also could represent happiness in a different way, for example 'blue skies' so things are clearing up, also the background is quite sunny and happy so I don't think that the blue represents sadness, if it did, then I think this was the way of representing the ups and downs. In the second picture where he is sat on the bed, again he is wearing casual clothes, with the same chain around his neck, this could represent that he doesn't want to change everything. In the third picture, this is when he goes on the roller-coaster, he again is still very casual, but this is because you wouldn't want to see him in very flashy clothes when hes only going on a ride, it wouldn't fit within the scene, and in the fourth picture which is shot on the night, he does dress to show off his new found fame, the leather jacket looks expensive, and he seems to be wearing more bling jewellery. He also goes well with the colour of the scene and what the night-life in the background looks like.
Example - Natural Disaster (Feat. Laidback Luke)
Media Language:
The video is meant to be about drugs, and the music being like a drug to the boy in the video and he cannot live without it. I think that the video has a very strong message. The shots in the video are very shaky, and in some shots they look like they have been filmed with a hand held camera. There is a lot of pan shots to show that they are following the boy around, and what he can get up to, I also think it makes it seem much more personal, as its getting up and close to the character in the video. The video also has some club scenes in it, and it also some scenes where Example the rapper is in a long shot which a club scene background, where he is in focus more than the background. This video is more narrative and it is trying to get a point across, its not just a boring club scene video. The video does seem very strong, its not a happy video or a sad video, it makes you want to know more and what he is going to get up to. The lighting within the video is very dark, on the streets to show that what he is doing is wrong and that is shouldn't be seen, also when he is in his bedroom, there's a very cold look to it, to show that doing drugs can leave you feeling down and sad.
Media Institution:
Laidback Luke is a 35 year old Dutch DJ, he was the one who made the music to this song, The rapper Example, is 29 years old and is from London. Laidback Luke is signed to Mixmash Records, and Example is signed to Data Records. They both are quite different, Laidback Luke is a Dance artist and Example is a Grime/Hip-Hop artist but who has done some Dance Material when he first started out. Example has has a number one album with 'Playing In The Shadows' and Laidback Luke is one of the most well known DJs in the clubbing scene. They way that they both distribute their music is very similar. They are both not signed up to massive record labels, so they have to be careful to get their music known and out there. They both put their music videos on YouTube, this is so more people around the world can see their music, not only the UK, also on their own websites. They bring their music out on music channels too, MTV Dance show their music a lot and do features in which it will say 'Example's Brand New Video' which the dedicate the whole channel to this brand new video for 5 minutes. iTunes again also disturbute their music, where you can buy the song, album and video. iTunes recently have promoted Examples album on their home page (picture below)
Media Ideology:
The video is quite different to most Dance music videos I think, this is because it actually has a meaning, most Dance videos have women in them and they always have lots of party/club scenes, and although this does have a club scene, I think it means more than that. The video is meant to be about drugs and how a person can become dependant on them, but in this video, the music is meant to be the drug. Its telling about addiction and how hard it is to give up. Its also showing the darker sides, like buying drugs. I think that the colours in the music video also show this, as there isn't many bright colours within the video until it gets to the happy club scene, which is where the boys ends up.
Mise En Scene:
The Mise En Scene in this video is very dark. The setting is in a club, the street and in a typical house. The first setting is the club, which is probably the only setting where there is some colour, and flashing lights making the video less boring and dark. The other scenes are all dark, like there is one in the street and of course its night time so its dark, and there is the bedroom scene where the boy takes his dose of music. The bedroom is very boring and simple, its all white, accept the Laidback Luke posters. The 'costumes' are all very different. Laidback Luke (First Picture) is wearing a red t shirt, this could mean love, and love could mean loving the music. In the second picture, the main character is wearing a grey hoodie with a stripey top, the stripey top could represent a mime artist, not being able to speak out and say what they feel. Also, Example the main rapper is wearing a baseball jacket and white t shirt with the word 'CTRL' meaning Control, that the boy cannot control what hes doing.
The whole of the video seems to be pretty dark, because of what it represents, the only time that the video turns slightly colourful is when the club scene happens, and this is because the place is seen as safe to the boy. The rest of the video is dark, like on the streets, his bedroom is brighter but its very simple and plain. I think that the mise en scene within the music video is very strong and does represent a lot. Without any of this it wouldnt make the video as strong as it is and the message wouldnt be as good. The lighting within the club scene is purple, and purple usually represents wealth, you need money to go to a club, just as you do to buy drugs, maybe this is what the video is trying to tell you, also it could mean spirituality, and to do with witches, like black magic, and this means the intention to kill, so it could be trying to tell you that drugs can kill you.
Swedish House Mafia - Save The World
Media Language:
This music video is shot in a dark street, a shop and in a car. The music video is meant to be about saving the world, so doing what the title of the song is, so really the music video again is quite literal, they are doing what the lyrics say. The music video shows the crime and then what the dogs do to help the victims, the video can be quite sad to the audience and also it can make them emphatic, as they might have been a victim of crime or they might have a dog and find the video cute. There is a lot of slow camera shots in this video, its been slowed down a lot, this is so it adds more tension to the video and so that its not just quick and over with, it really makes you think about what's happening. There is also a lot of special effects within the video, for example when the car spins over, this is done by special effects but still looks realistic, and I think that they wanted this look in the video, none of it looks too fake. There is a pause in the video, and it only lasts 2 seconds, this is when the shot is just a black background, after the 2 second pause it goes onto the victims after the crime has happened, and this is when the dog comforts them, without that pause, none of the video would have flowed as well as it does, it makes you think more as well about the characters within the video, then you also know that change is going to happen in the video and it does, the dogs come and help the victim's.
Media Institution:
Swedish House Mafia is a trio of DJ's, Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian, which all formed in late 2008. They are signed to Virgin Records and have worked with various other artists including Pharell Williams on their single 'One' and also Tinie Tempah on 'Miami 2 Ibiza'. How they distribute their music is quite different to how other artists do it. They distribute it through music channels; so MTV Dance will play their songs on a regular basis, this is because this the the genre of music they play a lot, and also Swedish House Mafia are all famous DJ's, so they already know about distributing their music through music channels, and its worked well for them before. They also distribute it through YouTube, and post all of their new videos on there, and also on iTunes where you can buy the songs and videos. They distribute the music differently because they do a lot of their advertising on their actual official website, its also where you get to know when tickets are on sale, by doing this its also making new fans go on their website and find out more about them and maybe buy some more of their music.
Media Ideology
This music video is all about crime and about what's happening in society I think. Crime is always going on and this music video highlights what can happen on a day to day basis. Although its abstract with the dogs its still realistic, as crime is real. The video is also meant to show that animals also have feelings and know about what's going on. They are also not your typical superhero's, so this adds interest to the video, they must have done sort of research too, because on most questionnaires, most people prefer dogs to cats, so they chose the right animal for the part.
Mise En Scene
The setting of the music video is shot in a dark street and within a shop. There are several characters in the video. One of the sets of characters is the two girls walking home. One is wearing a red dress, which could mean danger, danger of what's going to happen, the other girl is wearing a khaki green coat, khaki is something men in the army have to wear, so this could also represent that she is strong and that she will get through what has happened to her, she is also leaning against a red wall again representing danger. Another character is the boy who works in the shop, now he is wearing a plain black t-shirt, this could represent a time of darkness for the boy, because also later on in the video, the boy is sat down looking very lonely, so at the time of the crime the boy could be feeling very lonely and scared, he is also wearing a white apron, this represents innocence, and this boy is innocent, he hasn't done anything wrong, but is still the victim of a crime, he is also wearing jeans and sneakers, so his dressed very casual to show that he earning a living, and that hes lower class, and that these thugs are trying to stop him from earning a living. All of the thugs in the video are wearing black hats or balaclavas, this again is to represent darkness, to blend in with dark and to try and not be seen to other people. They also are wearing very dark colours, again this is because they don't want to be seen or blend in with society. The dogs in the video are all lightly coloured, none of the dogs have very dark fur, this is to show they are the good guys in the video and that they also bringing safety to the victims.
When deciding on what song to choose, I found this very hard, I went through many stages to finally choose a song that I thought I could do a music video to. Firstly I thought about the music I like, I didn't want to choose a song that I know I wouldn't like and wouldn't have much background knowledge on, so I knew it would be either a Pop/Dance/R&B/Hip-Hop song, more main stream kind of music. I wanted a fun music video, a video that people could feel happy about, but also have some meaning to it at the same time. One of my favourite artist's is David Guetta, So I took a look at his most recent album, as most of them do have a meaning and they are also fun and upbeat. Here is the track list to his album..
1. Where Them Girls At (Feat. Flo Rida & Nicki Minaj)
This song is a good choice because it is really fun, there could be a lot of ideas linked to this and many locations I could use. The bad thing I think about this song is that it doesn't have much meaning, and its abit too fun. I also think that the rapping would be hard to shoot and finding a suitable location would be tough. So I don't think this is a good choice, there is too many negatives. This song also already has a video to it, so I think it would be hard to compare to the video that is already released.
2. Little Bad Girl (Feat. Ludacris & Taio Cruz)
This is the second song off the album. The reason this would song would work well would be because its fun, its also again, upbeat and happy, but at the same time I think that its mainly male dominated, its not something that women could get involved in and there isn't much meaning within the song, its just about going to a club and seeing a girl you like, so it would be hard to come up with some good ideas. Again this already has a video to it so it would be hard to not think about this video when creating my own, so I wont be choosing this song for my music video.
3. Turn Me On (Feat. Nicki Minaj)
Turn Me On is also an upbeat song, it has female vocals and also some rapping, I thought that this song was a good choice at first but then looking into it I thought the rapping would be hard to think about ideas for, I also think there isn't any good ideas for it and the video would have to be very abstract and this wasn't the idea I had in mind.
4. Sweat (Feat. Snoop Dogg)
This song is something that you would hear in a club, its very dancy and its something that you would hear in a real party atmosphere. There are many good ideas that could go along with this video, but at the same time the lyrics are a little too sexual and think it would be hard to make it less explicit.
5. Without You (Feat. Usher)
Without You is one of the most meaningful songs on the album, it has lots of meaningful lyrics and the song is the slowest on the album. It still has the feel good factor but its abit too meaningful, and there has already been a video for this video so I think this would again influence me.
6. Nothing Really Matters (Feat. Will.I.Am)
I would defiantly not pick this song, the reason is because I think this is the worst song on the album, its too upbeat when it gets to the chorus, and although its has some good ideas to match up to the song to make a music video, I think that I wouldn't enjoy making it because I don't like the song that much.
7. I Can Only Imagine (Feat. Chris Brown & Lil Wayne)
I really like this song, and its one of my favourites on the album. The big issue for me was that it was only male vocals on the song, it doesn't have any female vocals and to me this is important. I wanted to have a girly themed video and for it to have a female lead. I think it would be hard to find a male lead and also it has some rapping in the song which would be hard to do, and it would also be hard to come up with some ideas for the video.
8. Crank It Up (Feat. Akon)
This song isn't the best on the album but it has a good beat to it, it has just male vocals though, which again would be hard to do on the video, I also think that the video would be a little too explicit and also if I didn't do it explicit, then it wouldn't go with the songs lyrics and that's what i think a music video should do.
9. I Just Wanna F**k (Feat. Timbaland & Dev)
I will defiantly not be picking this song, although its a good song, I think that the lyrics are way too explicit. I also think that the ideas for this video wouldn't be very good and have much meaning to them. I don't think this is a good song at all, and there is too much going on in the song meaning there would be in the video making it hard for me to create.
10. Night Of Your Life (Feat. Jennifer Hudson)
Night of your life is a really good song, I think that this should be considered as one of top choices for my music video as it has lots of meaning to it and there could easily be plenty of ideas for this video, its fun, upbeat and could have lots of dancing scenes, I also like the fact that its a female vocalist, and that it could be very empowering. Its also with a big star meaning that it could easily be done, but the vocals could be hard to imitate when making my video as they are so big.
11. Repeat (Feat. Jessie J)
This is such a good song in my opinion on the album and I think it would be good to make a music video for, this is because its fun, has meaning, has female vocals which I wanted anyway, it also can have many ideas that lead up to this. Jessie J is also well known and I can encorperate her a lot in my music video. Its also girly and has a upbeat vibe to it.
12. Titanium (Feat. Sia)
Although I do like this song, I think this is too screechy, there is too much high pitched singing and it wouldbehard to come up with some ideas for this, its too dancey too, I think that when its just music playing with no singing, it would be hard to find something that my artist could do when its just music. I think that the idea behind it would be good, but doing the actual video would be too hard and finding someone with tons of confidence would be hard.
David Guetta - Repeat (Feat. Jessie J) Genre: Dance
The song I have chosen to do as my music video is David Guetta - Repeat, featured with Jessie J. The reason I chose this song was because David Guetta is one of my favourite artists, and although Dance is not one of my favourite Genres, it still has a Pop element to it because of Jessie J featuring on it. I also wanted my music video to be colourful, have effects and I wanted it to be fun, so I thought this song fitted my vision very well. This song also hasn't got a music video to it yet, so this means that when im creating the video I wont be thinking about what the artist has already done or comparing mine to theirs. These are the lyrics to the song.
I can see your mouth move
But I don't hear the words
And while you dig yourself a hole
You're burying me in the blur
I can taste the fake, the shame
I've heard this story before
And while you dig yourself a hole
It's the same sh*t, different girl
When I was building a home, you made a bed of your own, or perfectly the life of three
But now your cover is blown, you get to be on your own, and find another stupid girl like me
So go out and party, cuz I'm just getting started
And I'm dancing to a brand new beat
It gets stuck on repeat, repeat, repeat
Gets stuck on repeat, repeat, repeat
So go out and party, like you're not broken-hearted
Cuz you're now one just mistake on my beat
It gets stuck on repeat, repeat, repeat
Gets stuck on repeat, repeat, repeat
I wanna know, was I the one?
Or just the chick on the side
I gave it all, put down my walls
You dare I didn't try
But you won't stop, stop telling me what, what I want to know
I'm ejecting the sign of you deleting the thought of you, record this, and watch me go
When I was building a home, you made a bed of your own, or perfectly the life of three
But now your cover is blown, you get to be on your own, and find another stupid girl like me
So go out and party, cuz I'm just getting started
And I'm dancing to a brand new beat
It gets stuck on repeat, repeat, repeat
Gets stuck on repeat, repeat, repeat
So go out and party, like you're not broken-hearted
Cuz you're now one just mistake on my beat
It gets stuck on repeat, repeat, repeat
Gets stuck on repeat, repeat, repeat
I have also done the timing's for the song, these are so I know what do in each shot and how long the shot will last, this is only rough and won't be exact, but it helps me when doing the filming. This will also help me with the storyboard, and creating the ideas for the music video.
