Magazine Advert Conventions

Conventions are something that we are used to seeing, so when looking at a Magazine Advert, I need to see what is included in this, so I can add these conventions to my own Magazine Advert.

This is a typical magazine advert. It has all the conventions including a large image of the CD cover or the artist. It is important to have this as it shows off the artist and people will be able to spot them from a mile away which is grabbing their attention and making them want to buy it, also when flicking through a magazine the image should make you stop and want to look at it, and in this case I think it does because Rihanna looks like a completely different person, so it makes you stop and think, is that Rihanna?

The logo in the top right corner is an important convention as sometimes this is how some people spot the artist and notice something. Like the Rihanna logo 'R' is something that people notice very easily and know about so when flicking through a magazine I think this would make you stop and notice it. The location of the logo is also important as when you are flicking through a magazine this would be seen if this was on the right hand page.

Another convention is the name of the artist, this is something we see straight away also, as this means that this is the artist that is promoting their album. This font stands out as it is against this black background. Its also located somewhere that we see straight away too if we opened the page, so its not located anywhere that the audience wouldn't see.

There is also a parent advisory logo which is usually seen on all posters if it includes this on the album, the reason for this is because a child or someone young might see this advertisement and think they want to buy the album but it means that if they want to, its a little warning to let me know that they need a parent going to get it or they need to be above a certain age, if they didn't put this on there I think it would annoy certain audiences as they would not be able to buy it.

The names of the songs are also a convention that need to be on the poster, it gives an example of what the audience can expect to see on the promoted album. If it isnt the tracks which are on the album, then usually its a review or a critics quote that is on the advertisement, this is to tell the audience more about the album.
