Digipack Conventions

This picture show's all the conventions in which are needed for a digipack. Conventions are important not only just for the music video but also for the digipack. When creating my digipack, I will look at these conventions and make sure that my digipack has most of these on them other wise the audience might not buy it. I want it to stand out to my audience and for it to look realistic.

One main convention for a digipack is the main image and the surrounding images for the rest of the digipack. A digipack needs these to promote the artist in the best way possible. If its a good image of the artist then it shows them off and makes it stand out to the audience in a good way. It usually is a clear image of them and it has text next to it, which is usually the artist name and the album title. These again are really important and let the audience know the relevant information needed.

Title's of the tracks are important also on the back to let the audience know which tracks are called what? Its best to lay these out clearly so the audience know these really well, as they dont want to get the track names wrong. The back usually has some images too to promote the artist, having images on the back too means that they can get their point across as much as possible and the audience can see the most from the artist, the images will interlink with each other too and there should be a theme, so for example with the Beyonce digipack, it seems to be a powerful and strong theme because on the front and also the back they are powerful images and she looks strong in emotion.

The disc design is again important, some artist's have a big design on their CD, and some others only have the name of the album and the artist name, it just depends again on the artist and what the theme is on the album. On Beyonce's album, its very simple and there is just text, which is good, it shows what the artist is called and when its too fussy it doesnt look good inside of the case especially with the other images too.

The way that the CD is layed out is also important too, as it means that this is what the audience is seeing straight away and if it is not layed out properly then it could be hard for them to spot, so for example if the image was in the top left corner, then people would not spot it straight away and know who it was.

Magazine Advert Conventions

Conventions are something that we are used to seeing, so when looking at a Magazine Advert, I need to see what is included in this, so I can add these conventions to my own Magazine Advert.

This is a typical magazine advert. It has all the conventions including a large image of the CD cover or the artist. It is important to have this as it shows off the artist and people will be able to spot them from a mile away which is grabbing their attention and making them want to buy it, also when flicking through a magazine the image should make you stop and want to look at it, and in this case I think it does because Rihanna looks like a completely different person, so it makes you stop and think, is that Rihanna?

The logo in the top right corner is an important convention as sometimes this is how some people spot the artist and notice something. Like the Rihanna logo 'R' is something that people notice very easily and know about so when flicking through a magazine I think this would make you stop and notice it. The location of the logo is also important as when you are flicking through a magazine this would be seen if this was on the right hand page.

Another convention is the name of the artist, this is something we see straight away also, as this means that this is the artist that is promoting their album. This font stands out as it is against this black background. Its also located somewhere that we see straight away too if we opened the page, so its not located anywhere that the audience wouldn't see.

There is also a parent advisory logo which is usually seen on all posters if it includes this on the album, the reason for this is because a child or someone young might see this advertisement and think they want to buy the album but it means that if they want to, its a little warning to let me know that they need a parent going to get it or they need to be above a certain age, if they didn't put this on there I think it would annoy certain audiences as they would not be able to buy it.

The names of the songs are also a convention that need to be on the poster, it gives an example of what the audience can expect to see on the promoted album. If it isnt the tracks which are on the album, then usually its a review or a critics quote that is on the advertisement, this is to tell the audience more about the album.

Dizzee Rascal - Analysis Of Magazine Advertisement

The reason I have decided to look at this magazine advertisement is because the Genre is completely different to my chosen artist's genre, so looking at other genre's will help me see what different magazine advertisements look like for different types of music, I also could still put some of these elements into my own magazine advert.

The main image of the hip hop star in a powerful stance staring into the audiences eyes, telling the audience to buy the album, he is wearing conventionally the clothes that a hip hop star would wear, including the basketball style jacket and baggy jeans with big sneakers. The bright colour pink stands out to the audience and also means fun and also youthful, and this is the audience that Dizzee wants to buy the album, younger people who are fun and know about the rap scene, plus its a little unconventional for a hip hop male artist to have a pink album, so its breaking those boundries and making him different in the grime hip hop scene. This was also around the time that pink was a popular colour for males to wear, it was okay and seen as cool to wear this colour. The font is the album font to promote it, the white really stands out against the pink, he also could have the font in a black and white colouring to show that both races can listen to his music, in my opinion I think he has done this too because in London, where most of his fan base is, they are both white and black and he wants to promote this album to both of them.

There is also a review of the album on the poster, which gives maybe the audience who have not heard the full album before but heard a few songs of dizzee's an insight into the full album and what they can expect, as usually the audience trust a critics word, and they believe in what they say. There is also the website and the orginsation website for the audience to check if they want to find out more about Dizzee.

Gwen Stefani - Analysis Of Magazine Advertisement

The reason I have decided to analyse this magazine advert for the album 'Love,Angel, Music Baby' is because Gwen Stefani is also from the Pop Genre which is the same Genre as my artist, looking at this advertisement will hopefully give me some ideas for mine and looking at the conventions will help me to see what needs to be in my magazine advertisement.

The main image of this advertisement is the album cover the to 'Love, Angel, Music Baby', this image is very powerful as it has the artist, Gwen holding a crown and also on a thrown in an abstract art way. It makes her look like a queen, which they are very powerful and also they can be dominating which is what she wants to be to make the audience purchase her album. There is gold writing with the artist name being the most dominant on the whole poster, which makes it stand out to the audience and it lets the audience know who it is. There is a theme throughout the whole poster which seems to be royalty and also wealth. This shows that the album should be successful and she wants to known like royalty are, royalty are also in power, meaning that Gwen wants to be seen as powerful.

It also has the tracks which are featured on the a;bum included on the poster, although this font is smaller it still stands out to the audience and lets them know which songs are on it, so that her fans know if their favourite song is on this album and also maybe for the fans who don't know her as well, which songs are on there, so even if they only like that one song, they still might buy the album. It has an image of the album so that people can recognize it when they go into stores to buy it, but also where you can buy it which is from the american store 'Target' and also her official website where you can find out more about the artist and where you can buy the album from or download.

Chosen Artist Analysis Of Magazine Advertisement

This magazine advertisement is for Jessie J and her first album 'Who You Are'. This was featured in many magazines, and also newspapers. The reason I have decided to look at this magazine advert is because this is my chosen artist for my music video, so it will help to look at the conventions she has used so I can incorporate them into my magazine advertisement.

The dominating image is Jessie J's album cover for 'Who You Are'. This image is very powerful and sends the audience a very strong message that they should be proud to show their self as Jessie is doing and also its showing the audience who Jessie is, and its very bold, so if people like her it will catch their attention, its not an image that can be easily missed. The gold writing shows wealth and also luxury, showing that this album is something that will hopefully do well and give wealth to the artist, its also stands out again the rest of the poster and makes you see the artists name first which is what they want to happen when you look at a poster. The main colours within the poster are black, gold and white. These colours all work well together as they look expensive and they also stand out against each other. They all work well within the image and the costume and make up of the artist.

Underneath the image of Jessie J, there is the title of the album, and also a small section telling you which hits are of the album. This is to tell the audience maybe who don't know who she is, that she is still successful and that even though they might only like one song they still could buy the whole album, it also lets the audience who do like her, know that maybe some of their favourite tracks are on this album. Its a selling point, as it means that if people like those songs, then of course, they will buy this album, and that's why they are in white writing against the black writing, to tell the audience that. There is also her official website near the bottom and also some institutions that support the album and also the poster, both of these are important and if people like the poster and the artist then they will visit the website and maybe buy the album, so adding the website onto the poster is important and because again of the colour of the font, it means that it stands out to the audience who will be buying it.
